When we were deciding what causes we should give to, our minds went into overload. Seeing the vast need in the world and all of the possible paths we could take, we had to make some very tough decisions. We chose based on a couple factors.
The first question we asked is where is the need. As much as I would like to support the land that we love, America has been blessed by God so we can bless other nations. The next thing is we wanted to see the gifts change peoples lives and not get lost into a pool of funds. An example is, finding the cure for cancer is very important, that cure could have saved the life of a dear friend of mine, Mary Virnig. It is a worthy cause to support and in this billion dollar industry, our contribution would only be a drop in the bucket. We also want to give to those who cant help themselves. Abandoned children who are too young to fend for themselves, families that have so little, they must split a single peice of fruit which will be all they eat for an entire day; these are the places that need our help the most.
With all other factors taken into consideration we chose to support Feed My Starving Children and Life Outreach International. Not only do these organizations provide places like Africa, Haiti, and South America with the basic essentials of life, they also spread the saving message of Jesus Christ. Our “life is but a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes” James 4:14. Although we push to meet the physical need of these people, this verse reminds us that out toils to give life will only last but a moment. What is important is that we also meet their spititual need as well.
Mark 16:26 “For what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
LIFE Outreach International is an organization committed to the commission of Jesus Christ to take the gospel to all nations. LIFE believes that Christ intended for us to demonstrate His love as well as proclaim it. LIFE has several ministries worldwide that are actively demonstrating the love of God. We plan to give half of the money earned to Water for LIFE which is drilling wells.
In the developing world, 24,000 children under the age of five die every day from preventable diseases such as diarreah.
More African children die from waterborne illnesses than any other sickness or disease.
1.4 million children die as a result of diarrhea each year, all because of polluted water.
Each well provides water for an average of 1,000 people or more. This means that a child can receive a lifetime of clean water for as little as $4.80.
Feed My Starving Children – Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) is a Chrisitan based organization that targets feeding programs to children who are in the most severe circumstances, those suffering from severe malnutrition and threatened with death from starvation. They can make a meal very high in nutritition for only 19 cents. FMSC are local to the College that I attend, so being apart of the community in which we live, Austin and I can personally relate to FMSC’s purpose.
